Tora! Tora! Tora! Japanese film about Pearl Harbor

December 7, 2017 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm

Thursday, December 7, 2017 –

As this is Pearl Harbor Day, BCP&J has decided to call attention to this unbelievably horrifying “Day of Infamy” and honor those who paid such a terrible price thereon. The film we will show is quite long so we will start it at 7:15 p.m., a little early.

Tora! Tora! Tora! (Japanese: トラ・トラ・トラ) is a Japanese-American war film that dramatizes the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The film was directed by Richard Fleischer, Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku and stars an ensemble cast, including Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, Sō Yamamura, E. G. Marshall, James Whitmore, and Jason Robards.

The “tora” of the title is the two-syllable Japanese codeword used to indicate that complete surprise had been achieved. It is a coincidence that “tora” means “tiger” in Japanese.

As we always have a vigil on Hiroshima Day, we thought it appropriate to acknowledge the beginning of the tragic conflict that commenced on Pearl Harbor Day.
